Specialty Supplements

Specialty supplements are either single ingredient products or combination formulas consisting of complementary, synergistic ingredients targeted for specific structure/function application(s) in the body, such as skin, joint, brain, immune, cellular, eye and heart health. There is no question regarding the direct link between diet and health. This direct relationship has fueled the conceptualization and development of nutritional science. And nothing exemplifies this more than the advent of a whole new category of nutritional products with pharmacological benefits called nutraceuticals, which refers to products containing active constituents from foods and herbs that have specific structure/function applications in the human body. In addition, another recent trend in nutritional science, known as nutrigenomics (nutritional genomics), is the study of the how nutrients in the diet interact with genes to effect specific health outcomes. Both the emergence of nutrigenomic ingredients, like licorice flavonoid oil (Glavonoid®) for weight management, as well as nutraceutical condition-specific ingredients and formulas, have literally changed the landscape of nutritional science forever.

Combining complementary vitamin, mineral, botanical, nutraceutical and/or nutrigenomic ingredients into a single formula - all of which have been identified by scientific research to illicit a similar pharmacological effect in the human body in a synergistic fashion - has not only paved the way for specialty supplements to take a leading role in the nutritional supplement industry today but has also changed the way consumers think of nutrition and supplementation.
