About Us
Everything Purple Starts Off Green

Environmental protection and stewardship are certainly buzzwords for the new millennium. But at Bluebonnet Nutrition, they have been part of our corporate culture since our company was founded in 1991. We believe we are citizens of the world. That companies – and individuals – must do what they can to preserve the Earth and its finite resources. We are serious about making the world a better place – for today and tomorrow – because the risks are real. In 2010, the world's population was estimated to be nearly seven billion and growing. At this rate, there will be nine billion people by the year 2050. Think of the natural resources needed to sustain this increase in population! Yet, our resources are dwindling.
It’s not enough to be environmentally and socially “responsible.” We must become activists. At Bluebonnet, that includes enterprise-wide “green” initiatives and environmentally sound manufacturing practices. Our actions represent a new generation of people who support sustainability, reduce dependency on fossil fuels, and give back to the world at large.

Alternative Energy
Bluebonnet's commitment to nature means that we also seek ways to harness nature's power and benefit from its strength - through the use of alternative energy sources: wind, solar and water. Currently, 30 percent of the energy used each month to run Bluebonnet's state-of-the-art manufacturing and analytical facilities comes from wind and solar energy. We continually work with local utility companies to increase that percentage and reduce our carbon footprint. Additionally, Bluebonnet searches out like-minded raw material suppliers that also utilize natural, Earth-friendly resources for their energy needs.
Environmentally Friendly
Conservational practices have been part of Bluebonnet's standard operating procedures since the company was founded. From the beginning, we packaged our products in recyclable amber glass bottles. Today, we utilize recyclable paper and corrugated packaging and shippers - as well as biodegradable cornstarch packing materials that dissolve quickly in landfills - wherever possible. We even recycle the wood shipping skids and crates that transport our raw materials. Early on, we also implemented a corporate-wide recycling program for all of our paper, plastic, glass, and metal waste. We even use soy-based inks for our printed materials because it is a renewable resource that won't hurt the environment.
Free Allergens
At Bluebonnet, our goal has always been to provide dietary supplements that are safe, clean, pure - and as close to nature as possible. But today's environmental conditions have caused a dramatic increase in the number of people who suffer from allergies. Not just seasonal allergies, but everyday allergic reactions to commonplace nutrients that many people consume daily. So we work to create natural, allergen-free supplements. In fact, a large percentage of Bluebonnet products are void of allergens - including gluten, wheat, barley, dairy, yeast, rice, corn, soy, sodium, sugar, eggs, crustacean shellfish, and peanuts. But when a Bluebonnet supplement does include one of these ingredients, we make sure it's clearly printed on the label, so you can easily find the products that are right for you.
Sustainable Resources
Sustainable resourcing - using a resource at the same rate that it is renewed - is essential for a company like Bluebonnet, which is powered by nature. Sustainable resourcing renews not only the environment, but also the communities and economies of those who farm and fish there. Early on, Bluebonnet recognized that sustainability must be a key criterion in selecting raw materials. So we always choose our natural ingredients with an eye towards future availability. One of the most important steps in instituting sustainable practices at Bluebonnet has been kosher certification. The only way to control quality, purity, and sustainability is to know ingredients' precise origins. That's what happens during kosher certification. Rabbis start with the finished product and trace every element back to its physical natural source ingredient back to when it first arrived at the manufacturing facility. That is why, in 2006, we rolled out a program to kosher certify Bluebonnet products through KOF-K Kosher Supervision, one of the world's most respected kosher agencies, known for its rigorous certification standards. This means all kosher Bluebonnet ingredients including the ones that have been vetted as sustainable can be tracked to their sustainable manufacturing origins and ensures that our kosher supplements meet strict rules imposed on hygienic processes - a quality and purity benchmark sought by vegetarians, vegans, allergy sufferers and anyone who wants dietary supplements held to the highest standards, as well as those observing religious dietary laws.
Community Outreach
True environmental and social responsibility extends far beyond the walls of Bluebonnet Nutrition in Sugar Land, Texas. So we are actively and financially involved with organizations whose missions correspond with our own. Close to home, we support the Houston Buyers Club, which provides nutritional education and affordable supplements to low-income individuals with health-related conditions. We provide supplements to food banks throughout the country to help bring better nutrition to those less fortunate. And, we champion Vitamin Angels, a non-profit organization that delivers nutritional supplements to malnourished children in underdeveloped nations. We also support our industry's activists, organizations like United Plant Savers and the American Botanical Council. United Plant Savers' sole charge is to protect native medicinal plants and their habitats in the U.S. and Canada - to ensure a renewable plant supply for generations to come. The American Botanical Council promotes responsible use of herbs and medicinal plants and conducts field trips to the rainforest to underscore the need to protect and sustain rainforest plants that are so essential to our world's ecosystem.
